39th Annual Yuma Prison Run
April 14-16, 2000
Well.....the weather finally got us!! We
decided to leave Havasu around 1 pm Friday so Teri wouldn't have to take
any time off from work. The forcast that morning was for WIND!! It
didn't look that bad when we left for an easy 160 miles to Yuma Arizona
just north of the Mexican border.
Unfortunately we found out that the high
profile vehicle warnings and small craft warnings were serious. 30-40
mph cross winds for the last 80 miles made for a less than enjoyable putt
on a bike.
The Norwalk Motorcycle Club was celebrating
their 39th Annual Territorial Prison Run at the county fair grounds.
For those who chose to camp at the fair grounds the wind and sand made
everything from the beer to the hot dogs crunchy.
Luckily
we both feel the same way about tents, so we camped Best Western.
There's nothing like a shower and an airconditioner. Not to mention
hot tub, pool and free happy hour!!
The Bike Run itself had plenty of vendors, food
and live music Saturday night. Unfortunately we had a little too
much fun Saturday afternoon, so dancing until the wee hours didn't happen.
On the other hand, the weather was almost hot on Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures were in the ninety degrees range. Trust us, that's not
hot YET!!
The best part of the whole weekend was the ride
home. Eighty degrees, NO WIND and plenty of stops to relax.
Of course Foxes floating bar on the river was the last stop before home.
By the time we got home we were both ready for a weekend off just to rest.
This having fun stuff to do is a lot of work!!
